Fibromyalgia Proclamations 2026: Advocacy, Awareness, and Community Action
Each year, Fibromyalgia Awareness Day and Fibromyalgia Awareness Month give our community an opportunity to raise public awareness, educate decision-makers, and advocate for meaningful recognition of the millions of people living with fibromyalgia.
Every year, a group of fibromyalgia advocates comes together to write governors, mayors, and state assembly members about proclamations for Fibromyalgia Awareness! In 2026, we hope to bring even more nationwide awareness. With the team at Veteran Voices For Fibromyalgia, The Fibromyalgia Pain Chronicles, Looms for Lupus, Men with Fibromyalgia, Fibro Life, Lupus Spoons, International Pain Foundation, #TeamFibro members, Fibromyalgia Task Force of New York, and My Several Worlds are are working behind the scenes to make this happen. We do acknowledge there are other groups/advocates submitting. Hopefully, one day we can all work together, but in the meantime, we can only acknowledge that we have been working together since 2019.
A proclamation is more than a symbolic document. It is a public statement that recognizes fibromyalgia as a serious chronic pain condition and affirms the need for education, research, compassionate care, and community support.
Why Fibromyalgia Proclamations Matter
Fibromyalgia is often misunderstood, minimized, or dismissed, even though it can significantly affect a person’s pain levels, sleep, energy, cognition, daily function, mental health, employment, relationships, and quality of life. Many people living with fibromyalgia spend years searching for answers, navigating complex symptoms, and trying to be believed.
Public proclamations help change that.
When a mayor, governor, county board, or local official issues a fibromyalgia proclamation, they help bring visibility to a condition that is too often invisible. These proclamations can help open conversations in communities, healthcare settings, workplaces, schools, and legislative spaces.
They also send an important message to people living with fibromyalgia:
You are seen. Fibromyalgia matters. Your voice deserves to be heard.
What Is a Fibromyalgia Proclamation?
A proclamation is an official statement issued by a government leader or public body to recognize a specific day, week, or month. For fibromyalgia advocacy, proclamations are often requested for:
May 12 — Fibromyalgia Awareness Day
or
May — Fibromyalgia Awareness Month
A proclamation may recognize the impact of fibromyalgia, the importance of awareness and education, the need for continued research, and the role of community support in improving quality of life for patients and families.
Fibromyalgia Proclamations as Advocacy Tools
Proclamations can be used in many meaningful ways. Advocates may share them on social media, display them at awareness events, send them to local media, include them in newsletters, or use them to start conversations with healthcare organizations and policymakers.
They can also help build momentum for broader advocacy goals, including:
Increasing public understanding of fibromyalgia
Reducing stigma surrounding chronic pain and invisible illness
Encouraging healthcare provider education
Promoting patient-centered and whole-person care
Supporting research into causes, treatments, and better outcomes
Building stronger community awareness and support
Every proclamation helps create another point of visibility for the fibromyalgia community.
How You Can Help in 2026
The Fibromyalgia National Health Organization invites advocates across the United States to participate in the Fibromyalgia Proclamation Campaign. You can help by requesting a proclamation from your:
Mayor’s office
City council
County board of supervisors
Governor’s office
State legislature
Local health department or community organization
Most offices have a proclamation request form on their website. Some require requests to be submitted several weeks or months in advance, so early action is encouraged. We can help with all of that!
A Community Effort
Fibromyalgia advocacy is strongest when we work together. Each proclamation secured in 2026 represents more than a signed document. It represents a patient who refused to stay silent, a caregiver who stood in support, a healthcare professional who believes patients deserve better, and a community willing to acknowledge a condition that has been overlooked for too long.
Whether this is your first time requesting a proclamation or you have been advocating for years, your voice matters.
Small actions create visibility. Visibility creates understanding. Understanding creates change.
Join the Fibromyalgia Proclamation Campaign!
The Fibromyalgia National Health Organization, Veteran Voices For Fibromyalgia, and #TeamFibro are collecting and celebrating fibromyalgia proclamations from across the country. If you request or receive a proclamation for 2026, we encourage you to share it with us so we can help recognize your advocacy efforts and highlight the growing movement for fibromyalgia awareness.
Together, we can bring fibromyalgia out of the shadows and into public awareness.
Together, we can advocate for better education, better care, and better support.
Together, we can create brighter tomorrows for the fibromyalgia community.
