Understanding Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is real and still too often dismissed. Patients face stigma, lingering doubt from some clinicians, and long delays before diagnosis. It's now understood as a nociplastic pain condition, as the nervous system amplifies pain signals. Central sensitization is thought to be a major driver, though the ultimate cause remains unknown.
Fibromyalgia is marked by widespread pain, fatigue, disrupted sleep, and cognitive difficulty. There's no single fix, but there is real hope. The most effective care pairs medication with non-pharmacological approaches, and it centers on helping patients build the skills and confidence to manage their own health.
